TENNIS PREP FOR SAMOA EVENT: REDDY

Tennis Fiji will send a strong team to the Pacific Nations Cup 2020 in Apia, Samoa in June. TF secretary Sachin Reddy said: “Fiji will be entering a men’s and ladies’ team. The best three eligible players will be selected in each category.

“There will be singles, doubles and mixed doubles as well. We need to go up the ranks like in the past. It will be a good exposure for the Fijian side as well.”

He added the final day to submit an expression of interest is February 7.

“Those interested in being a part of the national team and playing in the Pacific Nations Cup to send expression of interest as trial matches will be played throughout February.

“If you have a Fijian passport or were born in Fiji, you are eligible to try out for the team. Those selected for the national team heading to Pacific Nations Cup in Samoa will be announced by March 5.”

The trial matches for the Central Division will take place in Suva and the trial matches for the Western Division will take place in Nadi and Lautoka.

The Pacific Nations Cup 2020 in Samoa IS from June 1 - 6. Meanwhile, the Fiji Open Tennis Championsh­ip 2020 will be held at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club from May 26-30.

The championsh­ip is dubbed as Fiji’s premier tennis tournament. Every year tennis players compete in the tournament from Fiji and around the world. In 2019, 180 players represente­d nine nations playing in the Open, A grade, Veterans, Social and Juniors’ categories. >Waisea Nasokia
