Jyotika Shankar, or Jyoti as she is known in the tourism industry, believes her ‘homecoming’ appointment as Warwick Fiji’s new sales and marketing manager is special.

She grew up along the Coral Coast close to Maui Bay and knows the area like the back of her hand. Having attended Tagaqe District School and Andhra High School in Sigatoka, this homecoming could not have been sweeter.

Hardword pays off

In fact this new appointment has given her an added boost from the hard work she has put in at previous tourist destinations she had worked in to raise the Coral Coast tourism to another level.

Mrs Shankar attained a Diploma in Hotel Management, Advance Business Accounting from Fiji National University after leaving high school.

Inspiration

Growing up in an area that is renowned in the tourism industry, she had already decided this was where her career would be. She began work at Hideaway Resort and Spa in 2000 and in 2010 promoted to accounts officer and later to team leader sales and marketing.

In 2014, she moved to Treasure Island, Fiji and Bounty Island Resort where was appointed Reservations Manager.

Two years later, Mrs Shankar joined the prestigious Nanuku Auberge Resort as Sales and Marketing Executive but returned a year later to Treasure Island as Sales Manager until her move to Warwick Fiji.

“It’s been 20 years for me in the tourism industry and I have attained a lot of experience in many departments.

Homecoming

“This is coming back home after five and a half years,” she said on her new appointment.

“I was excited with this new offer of coming to work home and bringing new ideas with me to the Warwick Fiji and see how we can do better.

“This is special for me beause it is the first time to work for a property that has a chain of hotels so it is international.

“I am home now and know what it is and what we are going to sell.”

Mrs Shankar said Warwick is in the midst of the Coral Coast and has a range to offer young people, couples and families.

“All the restaurants are recognised both here and abroad especially the Wicked Walu.”

Fijian’s uniqueness

“We Fijians have something special and that is customer service which is known throughout the world.

“For us we need to keep selling this because they cannot find the warmth in the service from Fijian people anywhere else in the world.

“We want to create an environment for visitors where each year they will want to come back and spend their holidays here.”
