Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s coach Saiasi Fuli wants to finetune areas such as retaining restarts in order to improve at the Hong Kong 7s in April.

The Fijiana finished in fifth place in the Australia 7s in Sydney last week, beating England 17-5 in the playoffs.

However, Fuli says the team could not rest on their laurels with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games drawing closer and closer.

“First is the consistency of our kickers to put the ball in the right places and connect with our chasers,” he said.

“The other one is our defensive shape and how we maintain our defensive shape when the opposition is applying pressure on the multiphase.

“I believe that the third one is the transition block and how well we can adapt when we have the ball and when we lose the ball and defending when we lose the ball and how we attack. Those are very crucial in sevens.”

The team will be on break this week before marching into camp next Monday to preparing for Hong Kong.

“We have to incorporate what we need to work on in our next block of training,” Fuli added.

“We have a break, one week of complete rest and next week we will start our first block of daily training.

“It will be an eight-week period before the next tournament in Hong Kong and anything can happen in these coming weeks.

“We will set our four weeks block and the first block which is the first four weeks we will concentrate on our mistakes.

The Hong Kong 7s will be held from April 3-5.
