Prefects reminded of responsibilities, leadership qualities
Prefect badges are not for decoration, it comes with responsibilities. Those were words of encouragement from Varanisese Derenalagi who was chief guest at the Nawaka District School 2020 Prefect Induction on Friday.
Mrs Derenalagi told school prefects that a good leader is one who sets good examples in character and strived to perform well academically.
“As a leader, you must be an example to others by the way you conduct your duties and communicate,” she said.
“You have an obligation and responsibilities to shoulder with sincerity. The badge is not for decoration but a call for duty.” Head girl, Arthena Vosaicake, said one area she hoped to improve is students ability to listen to advice and be obedient to teachers.
This was backed by a supportive mother, Hope Vosaicake, who said obedience at home was a key to her eldest daughter’s achievements.
“That’s the character she was instilled with at home,” Mrs Vosaicake said.
“For her, leadership with responsibilities starts at home because she is the eldest with two brothers.
“When appointed head girl, I told her it is not about leading, it is about servant hood. She is there to serve others and I am proud that she displays that lifestyle in school.”
Head boy, Robert Bainimara hopes to assist the teachers in ensuring good behaviour for the students in school.
His 74- year-old grandmother, Stella Radrodro said she felt satisfied witnessing her grandson’s achievement.
“I thank God that I am still alive today to witness my grandson’s induction and I am proud of his achievement,” Mrs Radrodro said.
Robert is originally from Noco in Rewa.
There were four deputies, 36 class monitors, 18 senior prefects, 18 special prefects, 16 environment prefects and a total of 110 prefects were inducted at the Nadi school.
