Women in their 40s living in the Korovuto area in Nadi suffer a lot from high blood pressure. This was revealed by the president of the Nadi Hare Krishna Group, Nath Gi Das. His comments came after the group conducted free medical checkups to residents living in Korovuto, Nadi, on Saturday.

Mr Das said the doctors and nurses had concluded that the common issue, taken into consideration, was hypertension while Non-Communicable

Diseases (NCDs) was the second highest common issue among the women. “Hypertension cases are a lot and NCD’s, but more are the hypertension cases,” he said. “They are not aware of it, they do not know what to do and we are here to help them out. We are doing more community campaigns and telling them about their diet, what they are doing, telling them about the three m’s, the mouth, muscle and medicine, what to eat, do some exercise and no smoking.”

He said it was a serious issue and the medical professionals had carefully advised the women to look after their health.

“We want people to take good care of their health and be more spiritual,” he added.

More than 300 people received a free medical checkup and were handed free medicines.

“The free medical checkup is done every month on the first or second week, we are starting with Nadi and we will try to target every community,” Mr Das said.

Mr Das said at least 50 members of the group were registered nurses and doctors.
