The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) announced the appointment of its public relations officer Glen Vavaitamana, who joined the FHTA Secretariat in the newly created role.

FHTA Chief executive officer of Fantasha Lockington said one of the key areas for FHTA’s 2020 focus was branding and visibility and Mr Vavaitamana’s 10 years of communications and public relations experience provided the required fit with the association’s strategic and business plans going forward.

Five year plan

Key priorities for the association that have been outlined in its five year strategic plan include a strengthened lobbying voice for tourism, increased branding and visibility, enhanced data and research capabilities, industry training and development focus, membership benefits and growth opportunities.

Mr Vavaitamana’s primary role will be to manage the association’s implementation of the communications and stakeholder engagement strategy, as well as promote and maintain the visibility of the FHTA and its members’ work in tourism.

Ms Lockington said tourism was a critical industry that needed to be better understood, and enhancing public relations networks through associated media platforms was one way to ensure it was achieved. Before joining FHTA, Mr Vavaitamana worked as a freelance communications consultant and events coordinator.

He previously worked for Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption, Fiji Television Limited and Communications Fiji Limited.
