Nasinu U19 lift Tanoa Challenge
The Nasinu Secondary School Panthers Under-19 rugby league team were crowned the new Tanoa Challenge champions after dumping Ratu Kadalevu School 16-0 at the Marcellin ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday.
The former champions made their mark from the start as they pinned RKS back to their try line time and time again.
NSS technical advisor Asaeli Masilaca said the team stuck to the game plan and kept to the structure of the game.
“The players executed our game plan right from the beginning of the game and stuck on the structure that we have been working on during our training sessions this week,” he said. “The boys played their individual role well during the game and that rattled the RKS defence and attack.
“We made sure that our defence was stern so we worked on that all week so I thanked the boys for the good defence during the game.”
Masilaca said their discipline stood out they disrupted RKS in all facets of the game.
“The analysis from our coaching staff helped us know that RKS game play was not good so we capitalised on their weak areas.”
Despite the win, he understands the pressure of defending the Tanoa is going to get tougher each week.
“With this win the team is a step closer to regaining that lost glory of winning the secondary schools rugby league title again.
“Right now we will enjoy the victory but come next week we will have to improve on the areas we believe that needs to be improved.”
Nasinu have booked their spot next week’s national quarterfinal.
