Enhancing Trade and Investment Missions Between Fiji and Japan
Ahigh-level delegation from Japan is in the country for the ‘Japan Trade and Investment Mission’.
The Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Norihiro Nakayama is leading the official delegation consisting of 14 Japanese companies.
These companies specialise in sectors such as Tourism, Agriculture, Education, Health, Aviation and Environmental Technology.
The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Premila Kumar will be officiating the Trade and Investment seminar at the University of the South Pacific, Japan ICT Centre today.
50th anniversary
The seminar is hosted by Investment Fiji in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Embassy of Japan and Pacific Islands Centre (PIC).
The Acting General Manager of Investment Fiji, Ritesh Gosai said this year marks the 50th Anniversary of Fiji-Japan Formal Diplomatic Relations which provides an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The Trade and Investment seminar is an excellent opportunity to connect with the Japanese companies and promote investment sectors in Fiji,” Mr Gosai said.
Training and skills upgrading
Fiji and Japan are also working towards Fijian workers training and skills upgrading in Japan in the areas of farming, construction and tourism.
In addition, the Fijian Government is grateful to the Government of Japan for the tremendous support towards the development of some of our essential infrastructure; the Nadi River Flood Widening Project, Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge and the Vaturu Dam project.
Furthermore, Japan has also been instrumental in the rebuilding of schools and donation of items to communities affected by Tropical Cyclone
