Curfew Accused on Bail, Some Remand
17 appeared in Nasinu while one in Lautoka
Seventeen people who allegedly breached the nationwide curfew in the Central Division on Monday night appeared yesterday in the Nasinu Magistrates Court.
Appearing before Magistrates Sufia Hamza and Charles Ratakele, the 17 accused are being charged with disobedience of a lawful order.
The accused Sandeep Kumar, Lal Chand, Varauni Mua, Rataele Lui, Ajay Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Jashu Reddy, Manueli Nayacatabu, Aisake Vulivakayawa, Voate Masi and Joeli Temo appeared before Magistrate Hamza.
Mua, Ajay, Ashok and Reddy were bailed for $200 cash and their case adjourned to May 26 for mention. Kumar and Chand were also released after paying $200 cash bail. Their case was adjourned to May 27. Lui’s case has been adjourned to May 29. He was released on bail after paying $200 cash. Meanwhile, Nayacatabu, Vulivakayawa, Masi and Temo could not pay their $200 cash bail and were remanded in custody until tomorrow. Meanwhile, appearing before Magistrate Ratakele were Vishal Lal, Ratu Inoke Silimakubuna, Ajnes Prasad, Nemani Turaga, Timoci Nocolotamasa and Apenisa Katobalavu.
Lal, Prasad and Turaga were all remanded overnight and will reappear in court today. Nocolotamasa and Katobalavu were released on $200 cash bail with sureties and their case was adjourned to June 8.
Taxi driver Silimakubuna, 23, was stopped at the Nakasi roadblock during curfew hours and had no valid reason to be out after curfew hours. He was bailed by Magistrate Ratakele and ordered to pay $200 cash bail. His two sureties were ordered to pay $400 each for bail and to ensure that Silimakubuna appeared on his court dates and not reoffend. His case was adjourned to June 8 for a plea to be heard. He was represented by Ratu Savenaca Komaisavai.
Lautoka Magistrates Court
Taniela Lotu, 28, from Vunato Settlement in Lautoka appeared before Resident Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone yesterday in the Lautoka Magistrates Court, charged with disobedience of a lawful order. Lotu was arrested on Monday for allegedly breaching curfew hours. Lotu was further remanded and the case adjourned to April 3, 2020.
