Prince Charles breaks silence on his battle with coronavirus

-

London: Prince Charles has spoken about his battle with coronavirus COVID-19 while praising volunteers, National Health Service (NHS) staff and key workers in a powerful new video message. The heir to the throne was the first member of the British Family to test positive for the deadly disease, but has now had the all clear from doctors. In his role as patron of Age UK, Charles recorded a message stressing the importance of looking out for older people at this uncertain time.

In the clip, which was recorded by a member of staff at his Scottish home Birkhall, he refers to the “mild symptoms” he had while suffering from COVID-19. He said: “Having recently gone through the process of contracting this coronavirus – luckily with relatively mild symptoms – I now find myself on the other side of the illness, but still in no less a state of social distance and general isolation.

“As we are all learning, this is a strange, frustrating and often distressing experience when the presence of family and friends is no longer possible and the normal structures of life are suddenly removed.

“At such an unprecedented and anxious time in all our lives, my wife and I are thinking particularly of all those who have lost their loved ones in such very difficult and abnormal circumstances, and of those having to endure sickness, isolation and loneliness.

“As Patron of Age UK, and my wife the Patron of SilverLine, our hearts go out to all those older people throughout this country who are now experiencing great difficulty.”

The heir to the throne has finished a week of self-isolation after being diagnosed with coronavirus.

His wife Camilla, who was tested at the same time as Charles but does not have the virus, is still in self-isolating in line with government guidance.
