YASAWA RUGBY OPENS FOR MAJOR SPONSOR

The Yasawa Rugby Union (YRU) is keeping its fingers crossed in getting a Major Sponsorship to cover their coffers for the 2020 rugby season.

YRU was founded more than two decades ago and had some challenging times and was inactive for some years. The Marlins created history last year by being promoted to the major union for the first time.

YRU vice president Kaminieli Sadrata said, “The Adi Yasawa Carnival Committee gave us $27, 000, from the 27 village at Yawasa for the off season and for the Skipper Cup competition. However the door remains open for any business house who wishes to pledge their partnership as the major sponsor.” “The Union is grateful to have roped in apparel, Axellerate for off-season and this season. They have supplied us with all the kits for the franchise competition, and will go towards this season.

According to Sadrata, the Union had its franchise competition with four teams in the senior. This includes Baikeiviti, Duiyasana Barbarians, Northern Sharks and Yasawa South.

Women and Under 20 had two teams each, Northern Sharks and Southern Steelers where the competition remained in the pool plays.

He said the birth of COVID 19 has dampened their hype for the 2020 season.

“We are looking forward to the hype, prepared to take part in the Skipper Cup for the first time. The players and the people of Yasawa are all looking towards it. All did feel down but then it is the government call and we have to contribute towards the fight. “Before the one week towards the clash against Nadi, the greater Lautoka area was sealed off as the confined area. We just can’t wait and we are looking forward to FRU for the new dates.

“Trainers have provided strict programmes for individual players. Officials from the senior, Under 20 and women. Programme and awareness have been handed for the safety of players and to the families in terms of social distancing and washing hands,” he added.
