Ro Alifereti Doviverata has an open mind. He still has places for players willing to join the Fijiana XV team for the Women’s World Cup. The Women’s Rugby World Cup is confirmed to begin September 18, next year.

Despite having the restrictions in place by the Government during this coronavirus pandemic, the members of the team are doing their individual trainings.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana XV coach said there was still a long way to go to the World Cup in New Zealand.

He would look at some players who would be coming in for selection.

“With the team right now, places are still up for grabs, still open,” he said.

“We have the core squad that has been playing but we will also look at other women who are interested to come in.

“Some girls have been calling to make their intentions known, they want to be part of the team.” However, proper planning regarding the Fijiana side will be done once Government clears all bans on sporting events.

“We will await the lifting of the restrictions to start training then we can have a clear picture of what we are going to do,” he said.

“But at this time they are just doing their individual training.

“Once the restrictions are lifted we can sit and plan,” he added.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup will be played six weeks after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Doviverata added: “There are a few players in the sevens team, but will not know if they are still available or injured by then, so I cannot comment on it now.”
