Flemming Serritslev is optimistic.

He believes he can raise the standard of football in the country. The confident Vodafone Fijian football head coach said yesterday that local players needed to work on the speed of their game.

“In the two first camps, there is a possibility to raise the speed of the game,” the highly experienced Dane said.

“We did it in those games during the camp. In raising the speed of the game, the main way to do it is actually to train fewer touches.

“We have a lot of games, but we have only played one or two touches and would like to do more.”

From his observations in the first camp, Serritslev said, local players needed further development and exposure.

Over the years, not many players have experienced playing in the ALeague, which is a stronger league and would benefit for the members of the national side.

“Actually we can develop players so they are able to play in bigger leagues,” he said.

“It is an advantage for the players themselves and it is also an advantage for the national team if reps are playing on a higher level.

“But, if they go and play in the same level, then it is absolutely better for them to stay in Fiji.

“If they should go abroad, then it should be a better league than the Fiji league otherwise they won’t develop,” Serritslev added.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Football Association is expected to meet in Nadi today.

While all sporting tournaments are suspended, Serritslev said, this time was best to plan for the future.

“I suppose it will be about the future work of the national team, I mean how we go forward after the crisis.

“I will have to have a meeting with all the district coaches where we will discuss those topics so that everybody is ready to do everything he or she can to raise the level of Fiji football,” Serritslev said.
