Rakiraki records 3 Dengue cases, 15 in Ra province
Apart from COVID-19 awareness, people of Rakiraki are being briefed on ways to stay safe from Dengue fever. This comes in light of the three latest cases announced last week.
Rakiraki Town Council Health Inspector, Aloposi Senibuli said there were 15 cases in the province of Ra and the new cases were within the town boundary.
“At the moment we’ve only had three, but we are out in the field today to do house-to-house inspection based on the Public Health
Act and sometimes we give them notices,” he said.
“The first case is from Qelema Settlement, the second one is from Vatumami and the third case is also from Vatumami, but the area is called Thompson Place.” Mr Senibuli said there was a separate team working in areas outside the town boundary.
“These cases are because of TC Harold; there were a lot of branches, trees and tyres laying around as breeding places for mosquitoes,” he said.
Rakiraki and Tavua Town Councils Special Administrators Chair Mark Hirst Tuilau said the Rakiraki Town Council health department was conducting systemic house-to-house inspection and larval surveillance.
He said this was in addition to spraying hot spot areas with assistance from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Ministry of Health and Medical Services after inspection and compliance.
“The Rakiraki Town Council urges all residents to clean up your compounds and areas around to stop the spread of dengue and other diseases spread by mosquitoes,” he said.
