New Digicel Boss Farid Debuts with $5000 Boost for Veilomani
The newly appointed Digicel chief executive officer Mohammed Farid has taken up his new role in Fiji, about a month now.
Mr Farid is no stranger to Digicel Fiji as he has previously served as the chief financial officer for four years prior to taking up the CEO role in Digicel Samoa in 2017.
Based out in Nabua, Mr Farid like every other Fijian and visitor into Fiji had to undergo mandatory self-isolation before resuming with their official duties or carry on with business. Mr Farid’s first public media engagement was on Tuesday, when Digicel donated $5000 towards the Veilomani Food Bank.
About Veilomani Foodbank
The Veilomani Foodbank is a Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) led initiative that helps Fijian families whose family members, relatives or workmates tested positive for COVID-19, and are currently unable to work and put food on the table due to being quarantined.
“I would like to thank Digicel Fiji for showing generosity and support towards the Veilomani Food Bank Initiative.
“We also wish to highlight the profound impact that Digicel has on the market and many Fijians,” said FCCC CEO Joel Abraham.
“This is not the only arena in which Digicel has contributed towards philanthropic efforts We not just acknowledge this initiative but also thank them for their support towards assisting the grassroots sporting events, special Olympics and athletes, and more.”
Mr Abraham said that it may not seem so, but even donating a little can go a very long way citing last week when FCCC distributed 137 packs: 100 packs to Soasoa Village in Labasa and 37 packs to Nabua Muslim League Settlement in Suva.
Mr Farid expressed his gratitude to FCCC for their role in setting up the initiative. “I would like to thank FCCC for being in the lead in starting up such a great initiative who have master minded this whole drive very well,” said Mr Farid.
“With the different events that have hit us from the past such as the Tropical Cyclone Winston
and the most recent Tropical Cyclone Harold, our team usually does all the packing and delivery themselves but the COVID-19 crisis has put restrictions on all of us.
“So, through this cash donation to FCCC, we can assist those vulnerable.”
FCCC team will be doing a follow up on a fortnightly basis on the families assisted and then a second round of distribution will be provided to them.
Food bins have been distributed in the Central/Eastern, Western and Northern division and are working closely with the Ministry of Health to identify families.
