RESIDENTS RECEIVE NEW FOOD DONATION

- LAISA LUI Edited by Jonathan Bryce

Shri Sanatan Dharam Naag Mandir Nagigi has donated 100 packs of 5kg rice and 5kg flour to all the households in quarantine at Soasoa.

The organisation’s president Nitendra Nand said: “They are on lockdown not only for their own safety but they are there for us too. They are there to break the chain and fight against this virus.

“We support the efforts by the Government, as it is doing a lot and we also have to do our part and try to come out of this pandemic stronger.

“This donation is from everyone’s contribution. The funds have come from the devotees who come to the Mandir for prayer and donated some of their earnings for the temple; that is the money that we have used today to distribute food items to the affected area.”

Mr Nand was emotional as residents of Soasoa received the food items. He said the people of Soasoa were extremely grateful as people outside the lockdown area have been coming in numbers to support them through donation of food rations.

“My advice to people is to maintain social distancing to keep our Fiji safe and continue to follow all the advice given by the authorities,” he said.

A 75-year-old resident, Budh Rama, was grateful for the donation from various donors during the lockdown period in Soasoa, Labasa.

Mr Ram said they appreciated all humanitarian efforts shown.

“We are not able to withdraw our social welfare benefits during this lockdown and with this food items, it will definitely suffice for us,” he said.
