Businesses including town councils have had to relook at the way they operate given the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the Nadi Town Council, settingup flea markets and a micro mobile business centre was to assist both vendors and customers.

Chief executive officer Craig Powell said the initiative was made possible through the support of the ministry of local government.

The VoteCity flea market is located between New World IGA Votualevu and Tanoa International Hotel.

“We have plans to introduce a Jet City flea market on the weekends in Nadi as well as the first Micro Mobile Business Centre offering smallmedium enterprises flexible business solutions at the Civic Centre in Nadi. This new concept is for administrative and consultancy services and is the brainchild of our Chair, Debra Sadranu,” said Mr Powell. “This came about through consultation with our Ministry of Local Government on how we can help the local community to make a living and cope with the impact of COVID-19 while still maintaining safety measures without compromising their well-being.”

Mr Powell said the feedback has been positive.

“They have welcomed such initiatives to restore their confidence and give them hope that we are working towards sensible solutions for their benefit.”

Nadi resident Joe Grey said,

“There has been a wonderful initiative laid out by the Nadi Town Council with our dynamic CEO.”

Viliame Finau also shared similar sentiments.

“We welcome all vendors and thank Mr Powell for reaching out to service providers who lost their jobs and income.”

Opening hours for the flea markets are Saturday 7am – 5pm, and weekdays 8am -5pm.
