Businesses in Nausori Town are urged to put out rubbish for collection according to the given timeframe. Nausori Town Council Special Administrator Uma Patel raised the concerns after piles of litter were found dumped almost every time around town.

“We have already sent a circular to all businesses not to take rubbish out in the evening or night.

“It is clearly informed that rubbish is not to be picked on Sundays and yet they take it out,” he said.

“This is just to show that people are so irresponsible. Household and kitchen wastes are seen to be disposed off in town, which is scavenged by dogs and is littered everywhere.”

The Council has distributed a circular to business operators highlighting that garbage will only be collected on Monday to Friday from 8am to 9am.

After 1pm every Saturday and Sunday wastes are to be put out for collection on Monday morning because there are no night collections on Saturday.

Nausori Town Council acting chief executive officer, Lydia Racule, has called for co-operation and support towards keeping Nausori Town clean and beautiful, and avoiding the fixed fine of $40 under the Litter Decree. “Failure on your part in future may leave the Council no option but to instigate legal proceedings against you without further notice.”
