A perfect pre-Mother’s Day gift

- LAISA LUI Angeline Bradburg and Jeremaia Volau. Edited by Maraia Vula

An act of kindness comes in many forms and it is more of a blessing to the one that who is offering kindness from the one receiving it.

Jeremaia Volau, 26, was on his way home to Vatulovona Village, Waiqele, Labasa from the shop when he came upon Angeline Bradburg, 31, of Waidamudamu on the road on her way to visit her sister. Ms Bradburg has congenital limb difference, a condition where someone is born missing all or a part of their upper and lower limb.

Her lower limbs and half of her right hand is missing.

“I was returning from the shop when I came across Angeline, she was going to her sister’s home (Sarava),” Mr Volau said.

“She asked if I could help her, so I offered to take her on horseback. “For many of us in the rural area, horseback is our means of transportation and I was moved to see her trying to get to her destination which was two kilometers away from where I met her.

“Many young people would ridicule or laugh at those living with disabilities but they are more hardworking than us.

“As Mother’s Day is coming up, we have to show acts of kindness and appreciation to all mothers and women around us,” he said. Meanwhile, the mother of three said she was thankful to the young man for his kindness.

“It was the first time for me to be on horseback and I am so glad that despite my disability, I can still manage with the assistance from the kind young man,” Mrs Bradburg said.

“Not many would help me by looking at my body.

“However, I am forever grateful to all those that offer me kind gestures wherever they see me,” she said.

She said she would be spending Mother’s Day at her sister’s place in Sarava, Labasa.
