State seeks time to file informatio­n in murder case

The State is seeking 14 days to file the informatio­n in the case of an alleged murder of a remand prisoner.

The remand prisoner, Jone Masirewa was allegedly killed on April 13, 2020.

The four Fiji Correction­s Service officers, Onisimo Raboiliku, Semesa Bulikaloug­ata, Navitalai Kanavo and Suliasi Tubuna who were charged in relation to the death of Masirewa, were to be produced before Judge Justice Chamath Morais at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday. Defence lawyers were Mosese Naivalu who represente­d Raboiliku, Iqbal Khan who represente­d Bulikaloug­ata, Wasu Pillay who represente­d Kanavo and Vani Ravono who represente­d Tubuna. The lawyers were present in court. The State was represente­d by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns lawyer, Lavenia Bogitini.

Raboiliku and Bulikaloug­ata are charged with one count of murder each, while Raboiliku faces an additional charge of one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Kanavo and Tubuna are each charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Justice Morais told the court he would consider bail on the next date once bail applicatio­ns for all four accused persons were filed.

The matter has been adjourned to May 15, 2020. The accused remain in remand.
