Murder accused remanded

A 28-year-old man charged with one count of murder has been remanded in custody.

It is alleged that the accused, Josevata Werelali Koroi, murdered his 28-year-old wife in Naqara, Waima, Naitasiri over the weekend. Koroi, was held at Nausori Police Station while his case was heard before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Nausori Magistrate­s Court yesterday.

Magistrate Somaratne transferre­d the matter to the High Court in Suva.

Police Prosecutor told the court that Koroi’s full disclosure­s would be served to his lawyer.

For the accused’s safety, the Magistrate denied his bail applicatio­n and said it was a case of public interest.

The case has been adjourned to May 18, for first call at the High Court.
