Captain Turns Scraps into Pot Plants for Cash

Alinesh Ram is not putting anything to waste. The 35-year-old boat captain turns recyclable materials into pot plants before selling them.
For Mr Ram, the current COVID-19 pandemic is not an excuse to sit idle and wait for assistance.
Like many others in the tourism industry, he was also affected.
The father of three is a crew member for the Malolo Fishing Charters that catches marlin, mahi-mahi and tuna for commercial purposes.
And with no tourists, there is hardly any work on board the vessel, so he has found something to do in his Wailoaloa, Nadi, residence.
Mr said he started with plastic gallons, but failed since it was not strong enough to hold the mould.
“It is a matter of being creative and assisting the environment in this age and time. Whatever scrap I lay my hands on I put to good use in the project. This is how I keep my family on the go every day,” he said.
“This is something I thought of to assist the next generation and be at par with the Government’s fight against climate change.” He said his family also assisted him, and during his wife’s spare time, she transplanted the flower plants into the pot plants.
