Over 2500 pigs die of African swine flu in India’s Assam

-

New Delhi: More than 2500 pigs have died of African swine flu in India’s north-eastern state of Assam over the past few days, confirmed a state government official to Xinhua.

The pigs died in over 300 villages spread across five districts of the state.

However, sale of pork is not yet banned in the state, even as people have been advised to cook the pigmeat properly before consuming.

The disease is said to be limited to pigs only, and not transmitted to humans, said the official.
