EXPECT MORE RAIN, FLASH FLOOD: WEATHER OFFICE

A heavy rain alert remains in force for the Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and the Southern Lau Group.

This is after a warning was issued by the National Weather Forecastin­g Centre in Nadi yesterday.

“A situation of a weak trough of low pressure lies slow moving over the group,” said a statement from the office.

A flash flood alert also remains in force for low lying areas and areas adjacent to small streams along Naboutini, Navua from Talenaua, Galoa to Pacific Harbour,

Veisari, Lami, and Suva to Nausori. Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure lies to the west of the country and is expected to move east and affect the Fiji Group, the statement said. Forecast for Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and the southern

Lau Group: cloudy periods with some showers and isolated thundersto­rms. Showers becoming frequent and increasing to rain from tonight. Isolated heavy falls likely. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
