PM Voreqe Bainimarama visits Matuku villagers
Villagers of Yaroi in Matuku were excited when Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama visited them yesterday with relief supplies. Following the traditional ceremony of welcome, Mr Bainimarama launched a portable sawmill by the Fiji Pine Trust, which is aimed at assisting villagers with rebuilding their damaged houses following the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Harold.
A total of 28 houses in the village were damaged by the cyclone.
The Prime Minister also visited Ratu Mocevakaca Memorial School and had a talanoa session with the teachers and nurses on the island.
He conveyed his sincere gratitude to the civil servants for their dedication and commitment to the ‘call of duty’.
Mr Bainimarama also initiated the planting of vegetable seedlings which is aimed at restoring food supply for the villagers.
