PM Wraps Up Tour in Lau Handing Over Portable Sawmill

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a wrapped up his tour in the Lau Group on Thursday visiting the two villages on Matuku that were badly impacted by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

Mr Bainimaram­a is said to have brought excitement to the villagers as he had arrived with relief supplies. Here, he also handed over a portable sawmill, provided by the Fiji Pine Trust, to assist in rebuilding the villages.

Twenty eight houses in Yaroi Village were damaged and in Makadru, 22 were partially damaged while 12 houses were completely destroyed.

The Prime Minister also visited Ratu Mocevakaca Memorial School and had a talanoa session with the teachers and nurses.

He also initiated the planting of vegetable seedlings which is aimed at restoring food supply for the villagers. Mr Bainimaram­a had also visited Vatoa and Ono-i-Lau as part of his Lauan tour distributi­ng relief supplies to affected families.
