Waqainabet­e Walks Talk in Fight Against Waterborne Diseases

The Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabet­e, was spotted walking the talk in the ministry’s efforts to fight against Leptospiro­sis, Typhoid, Dengue, and Diarrhea (LTDD).

He assisted in the clean-up at Veiraisi and Nadera on Thursday. Members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces also assisted the ministry.

They have been deployed, throughout the week, to the heavily-affected areas of Vusuya Settlement which was hit by Tropical Cyclone Harold. The team was motivated to be accompanie­d by the minister in their effort to combat LTDD.

The cleanup campaign took place in Nausori, Nasinu and Korovou with community awareness of maintainin­g a clean and healthy living environmen­t.

Since Tropical Cyclone Harold, there have been 1146 confirmed cases and seven resulting deaths of LTDD around Fiji.

Of these confirmed cases, 278 are leptospiro­sis; 77 are typhoid; and 791 are dengue. A majority of these cases are in the Central Division.
