Six people drifting in fiber boat rescued near Toberua Island

The Fiji Maritime Surveillan­ce Rescue Co-ordination Centre (FMSRCC) have successful­ly rescued the six passengers who had been drifting in a fiber boat near Toberua Island in the Lomaiviti waters. FMSRCC said: “Passengers were rescued by a passing fishing vessel following maritime broadcast, Police boats were deployed, Navy patrol boat and RCC Flight team were also activated.”

Police spokespers­on, Ana Naisoro said: “An officer was contacted and the fiber boat has been towed by the vessel LU Yuan24.” The passengers had departed Qarani, Gau, for Suva when the incident happened.
