Weather update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 4:00pm on Friday the 8th of May 2020.
Situation: An active trough of low pressure with associated rain and showers remains in the vicinity of the Fiji group. It is expected to affect the country till Saturday. Meanwhile, a high pressure system to the south of Fiji generates and directs heavy southerly swells towards the southwestern parts of the country.
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Periods of heavy rain and few thunderstorms over Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti and southern Lau group. Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms elsewhere. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
Expect sea flooding especially during high tides over the coastal areas of southwest Viti Levu [Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour], southern coast of Mamanuca group, Kadavu, Beqa and Vatulele.
Moderate to fresh northerly winds. Moderate to rough seas.
Outlook for tomorrow: Occasional showers over eastern parts of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti group.
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Periods of heavy rain and few thunderstorms. Outlook for tomorrow: Occasional showers.
