Retired Nuns Pray Over Mothers Every Day
All mothers need to follow the heart of Mary, the mother of Jesus. This was the collective message from the retired nuns at their home in Wailoku, Suva, on Friday as some countries celebrate Mother’s Day, today.
Countries that celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May (May 10) include the United States of America, Australia, Pacific Island Countries (including Fiji), Denmark, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey and Belgium. In Mexico and many parts of Latin America, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on May 10.
In Thailand, it is celebrated on August 12, the birthday of their current Queen.
Meanwhile, two of the nine residents of the Wailoku retired nuns’ home are sick while the other seven follow a schedule of prayers throughout the day.
Sister Setefana Matavola says they do nothing in the retired home, all they do is praying the whole day.
Sister Matavola said they pray for the Government, churches, the nation, its people and all those around the world.
“We pray in the morning, mid-day and in the evenings,” Sister Matavola
said.
The 83-year-old from Namosi Village has been living in the retirement home for years now.
“This Mother’s Day, all mothers need to follow the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. That is being humble, loving and prayerful, forgiving and listening a lot.
“We pray for all mothers every day so their families are protected by the precious blood of Jesus.” Sister Matavola said when mothers go through hardship; they need to lift up their lives and problems to God.
“Don’t complain; learn to be a prayerful lady, pray for your family and your children every day.
“God is the head of every family.”
EMOTIONS
She said this Mother’s Day can bring a mix of emotions for many women.
“There are those anticipating the birth of their first child, those who have lost their mother and those facing grief on Mother’s Day. “There are moms who encounter feelings of hurt because their children have turned away from God, and those overwhelmed with pain from the loss of a child.”
“No matter what you face this Mother’s Day, you can turn to God and experience peace and healing through prayer,” Sister Matavola said.
Nun in charge, Sister Ana Selaita, said she was happy looking after the retired nuns.
“Retired nuns move to this Home depending on their health otherwise they will still be in the mission,” said Sister Selaita.
Sister Selaita said the Catholic Church calls the Home the Power House.
The retired nuns wish all mothers around the world a Happy Mother’s Day.
