Decisions by a Special Administrator to rehire some

workers without knowledge of the Chair or team of Special Administrators has raised a ruckus in the council.

The team members are now questioning how the lone Special Administrator went ahead to rehire workers whose contracts were not renewed given their poor performance. Information received by the Fiji Sun reveals that the Special Administrator in question did not have powers to hire or fire any council workers.

A source speaking to this newspaper last night said the Special Administrators were very frustrated given the work they were doing to streamline council services and to stop wastage.

It is understood that the Chair Elizabeth Algar was made aware of the recruitment only after the workers in question turned up to work.

It is further understood that the council had collectively decided not to renew the workers’ contracts but the Special Administrator went out on his own accord, and rehired them without any authority.

Local Government Minister Premila Kumar could not be contacted when this edition went to press last night.

Ms Algar could not be reached for comments last night either.
