STOP ORDER ISSUED TO THREE OF SUVA’S HIGH-RISE

- Atama Tamanilo Deputy Managing Editor Digital atama@fijisun.com.fj

Rohitesh Naidu These things should be done at the dock when the goods arrive in the country. Waiting for half the building to be done then having the investor to pay a heavy fine will eventually kill the foreign investment in the country. Vinod Kumar Very sad indeed for this happening, for all the three projects, so late into the construction periods; it seems the various engineers on the projects are not doing their work properly, it seems they do not know or have a clue or even understand, or are taking too lightly, the basic requirements in the current National Building Code of Fiji. The current NBC (there are revisions coming) specifies very clearly the Fire Resistance, Fire Egress and Fire Fighting Protection requirements for such structures. Where is FIE? What is it doing? We are led to believe that SCC would not accept any building permit application unless signed off by a FIE Member, implying a sign off by a FIE Member ensures at the least a minimum compliance with NBC! Where is CIC? For Fiji comparatively these are large high structures and we cannot afford mishaps under serious fires, if any where to occur! Our NFA is not geared to fight high level fires. Claude Fong Toy This is hilarious .... Suva City Council you must take full responsibility for this. 3 years ago I raised my concerns while living next to this building and you turned a deaf ear. Now I am going to watch with anticipation as to how you deal with this issue. On another note, I don’t think the council’s effort is going to change anything. There are higher powers at work here; I have a feeling the SCC is just a very very very small player in this. Watching with anticipation Rajveer Dhan Soo the council woke up now when 60% of the construction has been done? Arre wah Moses Bakaniceva Was the engineer suppose to check the structure In stages? It is almost to the roof and now halted. Oilei o keda. Nirmal Singh Going forward Council needs to have building height restrictions in different parts of the city. Faiyaz Khan Very much confused i mean the WG plaza has reached more than 25 stories or may be near completion structure wise and SCC realises this now.
