A Spe­cial Ad­min­is­tra­tor for the Nas­inu Town Coun­cil has been relieved of his ap­point­ment for go­ing be­yond his role. This was con­firmed by the Min­is­ter for Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Premila Ku­mar yes­ter­day.

Ms Ku­mar high­lighted that the ad­min­is­tra­tor had di­rectly in­ter­fered with the coun­cil’s col­lec­tive de­ci­sion by is­su­ing un­war­ranted in­struc­tions.

“Af­ter ob­tain­ing sub­stan­tial ev­i­dence, it was re­vealed that the SA acted ir­re­spon­si­bly by mak­ing uni­lat­eral de­ci­sion on em­ploy­ment mat­ter which had fi­nan­cial im­pli­ca­tions,” Ms Ku­mar said.

“The ter­mi­na­tion of the SA was with im­me­di­ate ef­fect, based on the ev­i­dence that he did not fol­low proper fi­nan­cial and staff hir­ing pro­ce­dures as per Coun­cil re­quire­ments and the Board’s de­ci­sion.” Ms Ku­mar has stated the role of

“SA can­not in­ter­fere when a col­lec­tive de­ci­sion is made at the Coun­cil meet­ing. “They are ap­pointed to pro­mote good gov­er­nance in mu­nic­i­pal coun­cils and they must act eth­i­cally, pro­fes­sion­ally and be ac­count­able for the ac­tions taken in the in­ter­est of the coun­cils,” she added.
