- ILAIJIA RAVUWAI Edited by Ranoba Baoa

Pritika Payal is positive of the prospect of what the new Laqere Market has in store for her family’s future.

The 27-year-old first time stall owner anticipates that it will stabilise their family budget. Her husband is a taxi driver.

Ms Payal, along with other stall owners, was at the market yesterday setting up and also making their first sale.

The Laqere Market is expected to be opened today at 10am by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

“The stall fee is about $1.25 per day which is pretty cheap for vendors like me,” Ms Payal said.

“This opportunity would really benefit families who sell. I am hopeful that I will make at least $200 per week.

“We recently bought a land and with this we hope to make more money, we are hopeful to build our first home,” she added.

Ms Payal sells vegetables, chutneys and tamarind mixes.

The market will have a butchery, handicraft centre, yaqona stalls, fruit and vegetables stalls.
