Labasa arson, murder case date set for May 18

The case of two men charged with arson and the murder of four elderly women will now be called at the High Court in Labasa on May 18.

Saimum Dean, 40 and Zuhair Frahaad Dean, 19, are with one count of arson, four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder each.

The incident occurred on in Benau, Labasa, on April 30. The case was transferred from the Magistrate Courts in Labasa to High Court on May 5. Their lawyer, Ami Kohli, was supposed to file a bail application yesterday. However, since there was no judge and due to COVID-19 restrictions the case has been shifted to next week.
