MAN, 40, REMANDED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE

The Ba Magistrate­s Court yesterday remanded a 40-year-old man of Namosi for attempted rape.

The accused, Laselevu Narekalou, appeared before Magistrate Samuela Qica. He is charged with one count of attempted rape. Police prosecutio­n Constable Ramesh Naidu represente­d the state. The court heard that the accused allegedly committed the offence on Tuesday in a settlement in Ba.

The accused was alleged to have taken the complainan­t to a cassava plantation near the settlement where they both reside.

The complainan­t’s uncle came across the incident and reported the matter to Police. Magistrate Qica remanded the accused at the Natabua Remand Centre. The case was adjourned to May 28 for bail hearing. WAISEA NASOKIA
