$300K Humanitarian Aid Boosts Indonesia-FijiTies
Indonesia’s humanitarian aid to Fiji shows the country’s continued efforts to strengthen relations and solid friendship, says the Minister for Disaster Management, Rural and Maritime Development, Inia Seruiratu.
Yesterday, the Government received a third consignment from the Indonesian Ambassador, Benjamin
Scott Carnadi, International Airport.
The first relief was delivered on April 22, with the amount of $10,000 and 100 basic relief care packages, worth $5000.
The second one was on April 27, where they handed over 400 basic relief care assistance worth $20,000.
Mr Seruiratu said the kind donation to the affected community showed the solidarity and compassion at the Nadi of the Indonesian people.
“Your act of generosity will bring our people together in this time of need and a hope for a better tomorrow as well. In the spirit of that co-operation and friendship I am confident that the relationship between our two countries will continue to grow to improve for our mutual benefit,” he said.
He said people were directly affected as a result of Tropical Cyclone Harold and COVID-19.
“Of course let me assure you, our team has been deployed in the last few weeks in the two phases particularly looking at responding and delivering essential items including non-food and food,” he said.
Mr Carnadi said the Indonesian government is a friend of Fiji and is working closely to get supplies to support Fiji.
“Fiji is a resilient country, a strong nation as it already has its own mechanism to address this kind of calamity and this is a small support from Indonesia,” he said.
The humanitarian aid was carried on a Hercules aircraft, which included 2000 blankets, 1000 towels, four sets of group tents, four sets of platoon tents, 500 cartons of cup noodles, 500 cartons of biscuits, 600 cartons of cereal drinks, 100 cartons of mineral water and 1000 litres of cooking oil. The total value of the aid is $300,639.
