Ministry: Sold worksheets not illegal

The Ministry of Education’s (MOE) school worksheets are sold at a shop in Suva city, which is deemed not illegal, according to the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Susan Kiran.

She said if any businesses were offering printing services for parents who could afford it then there was no issue.

“We have always told parents to liaise with the schools to get the worksheets since it is free,” Ms Kiran said.

Line Minister Rosy Akbar has also advised parents to contact each individual head of school to collect the learning materials.

“We urge parents not to worry if they are unable to provide proper guidance to their children regarding the worksheets,” she said.

The worksheets handed out are not examinable materials and have already been taught in schools. “These materials have been given out to ensure students are making good use of their time,” Ms Akbar said.

“Parents, I do understand that you want your children to be back in school but given the fact that we must give the safety and welfare of both our teachers and students a priority. We have kept our schools closed.”

She said students nationwide have been on holiday since March 23, 2020, but were now waiting on the Ministry of Health to give them the “all clear” to open.
