ROYAL SUVA YACHT CLUB
MAKEOVER
$120,000 renovation is nearing completion
A$120,000 renovation at the Royal Suva Yacht Club is nearing completion, vice commodore Patrick Todd said yesterday. The renovation of the bar commenced in November and involved the contribution of labour and material from members, he said.
A new feature of the bar is the glycol beer chilling system which was donated to the club by Paradise Beverages Fiji Limited.
The glycol system is ideal for preserving chilled beer.
Mr Todd said the bar area was the only zone marked for a makeover.
“We’ve spent all budget for that, and may have to reopen to make more money for renovations around the club.”
He said the last such renovation of the bar, at the club in Walu Bay, was in 1964.
The club is founded in 1930 and built in the 1940s. Project manager Carl Probert said the majority of work was complete.
“We are just waiting to carry out the finishing touches.”
He said members were happy to give back in kind to the club.
He said some work was carried out earlier on the bure.
Mr Probert was also behind the renovations of Paradise Beverages state of the art indoor décor.
Restaurant
The Galley, a popular restaurant at the club, will be opened as soon as Government regulations permit it, Mr Todd said.
He said it was under new management.
“We’re only waiting for word from the Prime Minister to open up the place,” Mr Todd said.
