Mother’s Love For Her Disabled Daughter

- LAISA LUI Edited by Ivamere Nataro Feedback: laisa.lui@fijisun.com.fj

Amother’s love knows no bounds or hardships as she strive to provide the best for her children.

This is true for Paulini Lupe of Vunikawakawa, Wailevu in Labasa, who cares and looks after her nine-year-old disabled daughter, Paulini Balata.

Little Paulini cannot move as a result of an umbilical cord prolapse condition.

Mrs Lupe sells produce-grown by her husband Sitiveni Ratila-at the market.

They have six children, who were born normal with no complications, except for the seventh child.

“After spending months in hospital, we came home, I have never questioned the doctors as to why my daughter is disabled,” Mrs Lupe said.

“I make her happy by taking her everywhere with me so that she can see the different places and enjoy herself.

“I take her to the farm, to the river or even to family occasions.

“She can understand when we talk to her even though she may not respond in a dialogue.

“We hear her laugh when she hears children are talking or playing outside and wished that she could.

“I go to the market everyday as my daughter needs diapers. So, while I am away, her older siblings take care of her or just keep her company.”

Paulini is very dependent and cannot do anything by herself.

Mrs Lupe is not aware if there are any form of assistance from the Government and has not applied for any.

She has accepted her daughter’s condition as to test her faith in God and to love Paulini unconditionally.
