Local Rates at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa
More locals will now have a chanceto experience one of Fiji’s most famous tourist destinations, the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa on Yanuca Island. The resort has been without guests for a fortnight.
It is now open to more Fijians to stay there at a reduced rate.
The move comes as renowned and up class resorts and hotels in Fiji begin to open their doors to locals at reduced rates.
Shangri-La’ Fijian Resort and Spa resident manager, Chris Hamilton said the new rates for locals was $250 for a Yanuca Lagoon room.
The normal room rate for anyone including tourists was $325.
“The last guests were from China. “They left two weeks ago,” Mr Hamilton
said.
Visitors from Denmark had preceded the arrival of Chinese guests at the hotel, he said.

Mr Hamilton said the 443-room resort was still manned by 300 staff.
“The staff work on adjusted shifts or job sharing, so that everyone gets to work a few days.”
He said he wanted all workers to take something home.
Meanwhile, locals who wish to stay at the resort will experience two of the Shangri-La’s group’s important trademark – hygiene and food safety.
“The Shangri-La’ group prides itself on hygiene and food safety. “Guests who come here are assured they are coming to one of the best kept resort as far as this is concerned,” he aid.
“Locals will enjoy the beautiful beach at the resort, the water park and golf amongst some of the activities available for them.”
Mr Hamilton said the experience was unique at the resort as guests would be staying on an island with the mainland a stone throw away.
