Awoman and her daughter are in critical condition following an alleged knife attack at their home, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed last night.

The suspect, who is under Police custody, is the husband of the woman and father to the 14-year-old, is also being treated at the hospital. Ms Naisoro said the mother and daughter were considered critical cases because of their injuries sustained at their home in Kuku Road in Bau, Tailevu, yesterday.

The owner of the property, Hemant Kumar, 62, said the family had been living in his house for seven years.

Mr Kumar said he was alerted of the incident yesterday morning by the neighbours.

“I live in Centrepoint and I came with the labourers to renovate the house and upon arrival, I saw my neighbours panicking and asking to open the gate to assist the family. “I quickly opened the gate and called the Police and ambulance for assistance while the neighbours rushed to assist the woman who was lying outside the house with her daughter,” Mr Kumar said.
