Minister: Fiji has 83% recovery rate
Fiji now has a recovery rate of 83 per cent from COVID-19, the Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete confirmed last night.
There are now three active cases while 15 have recovered from the initial 18 confirmed cases.
This is in response to his earlier update to the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday.
Dr Waqainabete, in his WHO address said: “Fiji has successfully broken the chain of transmission within the community which a strong and timely measures that have been implemented.”
He also highlighted that Fiji’s experience had shown Government’s approach was necessary with decisive leadership and swift implementation of strategies critical for lowering mobility and mortality from the pandemic.
“Fiji has shown that during the impact of climate change, the ability of a small island nation to punch above its weight is quite outstanding,” he added.
Dr Waqainabete also highlighted that the World Health Organisation had played a pivotal role, particularly with the testing capabilities available in Fiji.
