Social golf games to resume

- SEREANA SALALO

Golf Fiji president Vidhya Lakhan has welcomed Government’s decision in allowing non-contact sports. Golf courses are expected to be ready by the end of this week for games to go ahead.

However, they will only be open for social play and not tournaments.

“Firstly, Golf Fiji would like to thank the Commissioner of Police for the clarification, he provided over the weekend that golf being a non-contact sport can be played,” he said.

“Some administrators had golf in with contact sports and advised that golf could not be played.

“Golf apart from being a non-contact sport is also an individual sport meaning one person can play golf alone. He does not need a partner or a team,” he added.

“All golf clubs around the country are preparing their courses and should be open for play by the end of the week. Workers who had been laid off are being recalled.

“Clubs and officials are urged to adhere to Government advisories at all times and social distancing should be practiced.

“Golf Fiji has its own sets of more stringent restrictions which also must be complied with.

“There will be no competitions. Social play only is to be permitted.”
