Tuilaepa confirms Sir Gordon’s resignation

- -Samoa Observer

Apia: Manu Samoa 7s head coach, Sir Gordon Tietjens, has stepped down from the role.

The decision was announced by the Samoa Rugby Union in a statement quoting the chairman and Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi.

The coach’s resignation comes while the Samoa 7s team have still not qualified for the Olympics, which is the main reason he was hired.

“We thank the legendary coach for taking the time to help with our Manu Samoa sevens team over the last three seasons of the World Sevens Series,” Tuilaepa said.

“We wish Sir Gordon, Lady Julia and their family all the best for the future.”

Sir Gordon coached New Zealand to the 2016 Olympics where they failed to win a medal.
