Yatule Resort and Spa expects an increase in guest arrivals this weekend through its Bula Kites promotion, which is designed to entice local families.

Located along Natadola Beach InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Yatule introduced Bula Kites to engage children on various creative activities. Resort manager John Ambler said the idea came to light after an employee flew a kite around the resort.“Since we are a couples only resort, we thought of bringing in families to the resort through this Bula Kite promotion,” Mr Ambler said.

“With coronavirus, children have been staying indoors all month, so we thought it would be good for children to get out of the house, enjoy some outdoor activities and learn the basics of making and flying a kite”

With the Bula Kite promotion, parents can book a room for $175 per night in a deal that includes daily breakfast.

Two children can share a tent at $60 per child, provided they bring a blanket.

The new rate also includes specials for children’s breakfast, daily activities, and barbecue on Saturday evening, ending with a bonfire and kite flying on Sunday morning.

“Traditionally, we are not a family resort,” Mr Ambler said.

“However, we have interconnecting rooms. But given the favourable weather conditions, it would be a good option for children to camp with their parents.”

Mr Ambler said Yatule Resort and Spa lies on seven acres of land, with the rooms far apart, giving children enough grass land to fly kites and do

Beach. Mr Ambler said because the makeup of Yatule Resort and Spa is for couples only, the resort had to change its focus on families.

“Materials for kite making will be provided, also an employee of the resort will be available to assist in the kite making,” he said.

Yatule Resort and Spa has 36 rooms with a 40 per cent occupancy rate. Guests comprise a combination of local and international guests.

Mr Ambler said the resort was fully operational as demand began to pick up last Friday afternoon.

He said sales from the resort’s main kitchen had picked up as it offers Asian and tandoori style meals. The resort has also introduced a 20 per cent discount on food and beverages.

Since COVID-19, the resort’s target market changed to cater to the local market.

Mr Ambler hopes to have kite flying and camping as part of the resort’s activity when COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed for Fiji.

He said the resort also plans to have an entertainment environment where local bands and DJs can perform.

“We will also introduce a wellbeing weekend that involves yoga, health talks and meditation,” he said.
