Today is International Tea Day. Many of us love to drink tea; regardless the brand or type, we can’t go without it.

Seini Cokacini of Vunisinu, Rewa has been delivering hot tea to market vendors at the Suva Municipal Market for more than 10 years.

The 54-year-old is in charge of Ili’s Food; Stall One at the Suva market. Ms Cokacini said she delivered tea to market vendors from Thursdays to Saturdays.

“Vendors then pay for their hot tea in the afternoon once they have the money,” Ms Cokacini said.

A cup of tea is $1. Ms Cokacini said vendors usually order something to go with their tea. It is either with an egg bun or with slices of bread with jam. Her customers are mostly vendors from Naitasiri and Namosi. She said these vendors came to Suva early to sell their produce without having breakfast when leaving their homes.

She would be serving 14 cups of tea along with egg buns or jammed pieces of bread each morning. “I love doing this because I understand the hardship these market vendors go through,” she said.

Tea is part and parcel of Ms Cokacini’s life. She loves to drink tea every day also.

“I love tea with milk and I have mine with egg buns.”
