Nawaikula needs a fact check in latest rant

- SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula. Feedback: jyotip@fijisun.com.fj

When will the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) put up with the lies and silly utterings of its Member of Parliament, Niko Nawaikula?

Is the Cakaudrove foothold so strong within the party that he is left unchecked?

Or does the SODELPA hierarchy think Mr Nawaikula’s lies are helping the party? If this is the case, then where are their principles? I am referring to Mr Nawaikula’s Facebook post where he claims that no other country has relaxed superannuation withdrawal guidelines.

Is this his ignorance? Does not seem so, keeping in mind he is a rather seasoned lawyer. He surely cannot be so ignorant, can he?

So, is this blatant lie an attempt to sway Fijians? That seems the most logical answer.

As we reported earlier, Australia among other countries relaxed superannuation withdrawals. In Australia, superannuation funds are held by private companies so basically, the Australian Government has told these private companies what they should do.

That, they should allow their members to withdraw up to AU$20,000 (about FJ$29,241.39) each from their personal superannuation funds.

If Mr Nawaikula had his way, he would have led the charge in borrowing millions of dollars to be given out to people.

He has said so himself that countries overseas have bent over backwards and borrowed money, extensively to hand out. Is borrowing money the answer?

No! Fiji is not in any position to borrow money which is not aimed at bettering our infrastructure or where Government would not earn any returns.

Countries have seen their debt level double and more so in fighting COVID-19.

We cannot go down that path just yet. Where possible and feasible help should be provided, of course. But when we have our good neighbours like Australia giving direct budget support of $18million, there too SODELPA has an issue. SODELPA’s Mr Nawaikula penned a rather nasty post on the $18million given to Fiji by Australia.

He is of the view that Fiji should not be helped. Once again, so blinded by his hatred for the ruling party, Mr Nawaikula has no qualms about urging our development partners not to assist the nation.

In fact, Mr Nawaikula’s idea of assistance is purely based on racial dichotomy. And once again the SODELPA hierarchy is quiet about this.

Parliament sits from this Monday. Perhaps that would be the time for SODELPA heads to distance themselves from Mr Nawaikula’s utterings. But who will say it?

Caretaker leader Sitiveni Rabuka? Former leader Ro Teimumu Kepa? Ro Filipe Tuisawau?

It’s exhausting to keep track of who is leading the main opposition party every second week.
