Pacific Building Solutions Group (PBS) aims to branch out into the construction of affordable homes, spokesman Mark Acraman said yesterday.

His comments followed the official launch of a $5 million boutique collection of homes called Tamavua Estates in Suva

“The construction industry may be the next best alternative to inject billions of dollars into the economy given the fall in the tourism sector,” he said.

PBS spent a year building four luxury homes at Tamavua Estate, saying they wanted to prove that modern homes could be built in the fastest turnaround time.

Demand for expatriate luxury homes

Mr Acraman said proof of the demand for expatriate luxury homes was evident in the fact that the group sold two homes not long after the properties were built.

Each property, complete with a swimming pool and high security features including bullet-proof glass, is valued at $1.8 million. Mr Acraman said Fiji had 20,000 people who wanted to buy a home.

“The majority of this would be in the Housing Authority range.

“There needs to be a collective commitment among stakeholders to build affordable homes for Fiji.”
