‘Adapting to a More Virtually Connected Eid’
forward to every year and use it as a way to feel more connected to not only their religion but also their community, family and neighbours.
It is a day that allows the rest of the Fijian population to get a glimpse into the unique traditions and history of the holiday, however what most people often look forward to is the plethora of delicacies and edible delights that are presented to guests in each individual household.
Such an event always serves as a platform for the greater Fijian population to learn and appreciate the special aspects of the Muslim culture in the country.
This year however, we have had the misfortune of having to deal with the complicated implications of the COVID-19 virus.
This has effectively put a halt on all religious gatherings and therefore the mosques this year will not be allowing congregations for Eid.
Due to the current social distancing regulations, Muslims will not be able to offer their prayers in a mosque this year.
However, there will certainly be no suspension in the emotions and joy that such an occasion brings to this demographic.
Muslims will take this as an opportunity to celebrate the blessings of this festive period in the safety of their homes with the company of those they love and cherish the most.
We encourage everyone to adapt during this period and have a more virtually connected Eid this year. Eid Mubarak to all our brothers and sisters.
